Busselton to Walpole
After breakfast we said goodbye to our awesome host Vicky and her son Nath. Thanks so much for sharing a wee bit of your life with us, we really enjoyed your company.
We then set off for a day of picture postcard beaches, forests and twisty roads. I think this area might be Australia’s best kept secret. In fact we were talking to a guy at a lookout and he told us to tell all our friends that the beaches in Queensland are much nicer than here. Yeah right.
We called in to Dunsborough and Yalungup. Both stunning beaches. Surfing is huge here despite the frequency of visits by great white sharks.
We then travelled inland through lovely rolling countryside with forests, pasture and vineyards. We had a wander around Margaret River and then rode through forests down to Aubury where we had a late lunch. Then we couldn’t resist a quick trip out to the lighthouse at Leeuwin point, the most southwesterly place in Australia.
We realised then that we had still had 260km to our destination. Not much stopping but a wonderful ride on B roads through spectacular Karri tree forests and mostly perfect asphalt roads with bugger all traffic.
We are in Walpole, not much here but a strategically placed village with a nice pub.
Just another really good day being pleasantly surprised by an area I knew little about.
