Albany to Esperance
After an excellent breakfast at Kate’s Place cafe we set of on the 500km trip to Esperance. We visited 3 petrol stations before we got fuel and then had navigation issues getting out of Albany. At one point I did a u turn into a closed gateway and started to adjust the Tomtom. Nek minute a bloody great ute and caravan were right up my jacksie obviously having similar directional issues. So another round to get back to where I was. Sometimes timing is just out. Anyway we finally got on the correct route.
A really tough day today with strong and blustery winds making for a tiring ride. Low cloud hung about for most of the day but it stayed dry. The sun did pop out for a short while and the temp shot up to 28. Not for long though and we reverted to 19.
Not too much to see on this leg, we have now left the forest area behind us and there is just hundreds of miles of wheat fields and as far as we could see on either side.
A little bit of sunshine and artwork.
At one point we did see a massive mine that looked like it was eating a whole hill, and it was! Then leading off the site was a huge conveyor belt which crossed over the road above us and headed away for several kilometres to an equally massive refining plant that looked like a city of skyscrapers in the distance. Truly impressive.
We came up behind a B train at one point which in turn was behind a road train. We rounded a corner and came to a straight piece of road. The B train decided to pass, now these roads are not very wide and the shoulders are gravel, this guy ran out of room and luckily nothing came around the corner because if they did they were toast. I throttled way back thinking that this could turn very ugly. Whew.
Esperance is a very pretty place but we’re not seeing it at it’s best. Lovely beaches although the warning signs of deep water and sharks might deter some . The inclement weather has deterred me.
I have a few questions Australia!
Almost every shower we have come across looks exactly like this.
So who has supplied all of Australia with the same taps and shower head and why don’t you use mixers?
Way back in Far North Queensland I found a Pea Pie. Mince with a topping of peas. Bloody delicious, I haven’t found another despite giving the warming cabinets the once over everywhere we go.?
Why don’t fellow motorcyclists wave out to each other? Only a very few do and I think it’s a shame. I remember Henry Cole bemoaning this when he visited.
Answers in comments please.
Sorry mate but, pass, pass and pass. I cannot provide a decent answer to your questions...-Garry
ReplyDeleteStrange but true, today we saw several bikers and almost all of them waved and our motel in Kalgoorlie has the same showerhead but a mixer! go figure.
ReplyDeleteWe had "Pea pie floaters" in Adelaide, which was a mince pie floating in pea soup. Aussies eh?
ReplyDeleteI’m not sure my waistline can take too many more Aussie delicaciesđŸ˜‚
DeleteJust checked in to Coffs Harbour accommodation and shower looks exactly the same as your photo...
