Casino to Brisbane
We got up bright and early and headed off in 18 degrees and a beautiful blue sky. We were soon travelling through a lovely rural landscape with hardly any traffic on the road. Just perfect.
We hadn’t got very far when came to a lovely little town called Kyogle, really picturesque, we just had to stop for breakfast. We spotted a cafe with other bikes parked outside so we went in. The owner and his wife were very friendly and quite interested in our bike set up. Turns out they are just about to set off on their own adventure, 4000km into the interior of Queensland.
While we were waiting for breakfast Robyn got chatted up by one of the locals, the picture tells the story!
So on we went, day getting warmer and the scenery better and better and we came to a mountain range (well the locals call them mountains but they are a hilly range) nonetheless very beautiful and road became tight and twisty.
There were quite a few other bikes on the road and I can see why. After this the road straightened out and we passed many dairy farms. Really pretty countryside but quite low lying in places with a lot of ponds. The area is prone to flooding and there were numerous road signs displaying water depth lines during floods. Hard to imagine on a day like today.
Sure enough the roads became busier as we approached the outer villages heading towards Brisbane and after negotiating several back roads we suddenly found ourselves on a 4 lane motorway heading south.
We had two places to go to, one was to Liam (nephew) and Jess’ place who have kindly offered to put us up for the night and also visit an old friend from high school days Garry Buckler.
After about half an hour of almost gridlocked traffic on the motorway we were greeted by Garry, who after a cuppa took us on a tour of the gold coast. It was great to catch up and hear how much this place has grown in the last 40 years. Thanks Garry, you haven’t changed a bit.
Then it was back on the motorway to Liam’s place and he took us out to the local pub for a meal.
A big day but a good one.
Perfect day out; good roads, great weather, fine friends, bling bike, pastry stops, big smiles. And to top it all - Garry the perennial !!
