Bundaberg to Yeppoon
Away before 8 and once again lovely and cool 20.
The air flowing through our mesh riding feels very refreshing at this time of day and lasts until the temperature rises to about 25 then it just feels like warm air and after 30 its like a hair dryer.
An easier day today and after we left the cane fields and citrus orchards behind it was just a tree lined road with grazing pasture in behind. Not particularly interesting but it was shady which was nice.
We stopped for breakfast in a pretty village called Miriam Vale, 2 eggs 3 rashers of bacon and toast for $12, can’t be bad and that will sustain us till tea time.
We stopped for a look around Rockhampton, a lovely little city on the Fitzroy river. Lots of hotels and apartments and the inner city was beautifully kept with lovely island gardens and the heritage buildings were mostly well preserved. Unfortunately there were a lot of empty retail spaces, seems that the life has been sucked out of it by the big box stores that line the roads in and out of the place.
First croc experience ! hopefully the only one.
Anyway on to our destination for the night Yeppoon. What a cracker little place, a seaside town with a beautiful bay and beaches. Our motel is right on the beach and I couldn’t resist a swim. The water is almost tepid and the motel owner assured me there were no crocs today. Yippee.
You would think that after my mountaineering days where everything was weighed and accounted for and also numerous motorbike trips that I would have packing down to a fine art, well yesterday we send 5.2kg of excess baggage back to Melbourne!
The post office is part of a mall so Robyn said she needed to replace something that she left behind somewhere. So into this big shop we went, I went off browsing and when I got back to the ladies dept there was no sign of her. I looked in other shops then back to the bike. Nowhere. I’ll text her, oh thats right she didn’t bring her phone and oh bugger she has no money. Crap. Back to the original shop where she was just about to ask the girl at the counter to hold her purchaces when we spied each other. Crisis avoided and not even a cross word.
Those who know Mark will understand this is not an unusual occurrence- where he disappears😂on me. ( R)
Fish n chips for dinner as there were not too many other options.
This one made me laugh, Robyn :)
