Perth

Today Caitlin and Daniel had entered a 10km organised run which was part of the annual Perth festival of running. We accompanied them to the CBD and watched them and thousands of others start their run. While they were occupied we wandered about taking in as much as possible.

Perth is a lovely place, spotlessly clean and the Swan river really sets it off. I think Australian cities are the best looking cities in the world.

We met up again a couple of hours later and headed to Freemantle for lunch. A cracking part of Perth, Freemantle is still a working port but also the original port and so many of the original buildings have been preserved and repurposed.

We had a lovely lunch in a huge converted warehouse right on the water. We watched in awe as two tugs guided this massive car transporter ship into the port to unload its cargo of Teslas.

We then headed to the Freemantle Prison and took a tour, which explained the history of the place from its British convict origins in 1850 through to the massive riot and fire in 1988 and its final closure in 1991. Its was hard to imagine that it held maximum security inmates so recently. No wonder there was a riot.

A very nice day in a nice environment and a very comfortable 23 degrees
