Willare Roadhouse to Broome

A short hop today to the seaside resort of Broome. We had an excellent breakfast of poached eggs on avo with fig honey and dukkah drizzled through it. Yum. I’m not one for posting about food but this was exceptional.

The rain continued through last night which meant a slithery exit out of the roadhouse.

The weather was fine and cool and we had hardly got a km down the road when we had a “wow look at that” moment as we passed over a bridge. I did a u turn and we had another look.

Then there there were two more rivers just like it!

The rest of the ride into Broome was long straight roads and the bush is getting noticeably more sparse. Once again termite mounds as far as the eye can see and the baobob trees.

We arrived into Broome much too early to check in so we parked up and found a cafe. Oh boy we feel like we’ve been transported to another planet. After our roadhouse experiences over the last few days which have been really good, we are suddenly amongst the great and the good, all hair do’s and designer looking clothes and here we are hair stuck down from sweaty helmets and clothes covered in road grime! Anyway I’m much happier like this.

So we’re sitting on the pavement outside sipping our coffee and there is this this horrendous noise, we looked up to see a airliner heading straight for us. No time to dive under the table, I braced for impact only for it pass over us. I looked around and everyone else was calmly carrying on as if nothing happened.

No one told us the end of the runway was about 500 metres away on the  other side of the building. Shit that thing was low.

We took a short walk to the beach this afternoon. A lovely beach with some people swimming between the flags.

We saw the camel train taking tourists for a ride for which this beach is known.

We have hit the Indian Ocean. It feels like we’re getting there as our forward planning continues.

  1. An unexpected jet-liner heading straight toward you must have been rather un-nerving. Great to see that you have reached Broome safely. 😉🥰

    1. Yes. I nearly spilt my coffee, it was actually a very good one which is a rare thing in these parts.😂
