Cairns to Port Douglas
When we emeged from our hotel for breakfast it actually felt cool. There was quite thick cloud cover but it didn’t last.
After brekkie we packed up and set off in search of a few supplies that we may or may not need in the weeks to come. Camping gas, dehyd meals and last but hopefully least a snake bite kit. If we don’t use it I’m sure it will come in handy at home.
Then it was goodbye Cairns as we headed off in the direction of Port Douglas. We did take a detour to lovely little village in the hills called Kuranda. A nice little place and cool because of its location. We visited the nearby Barron falls which cascade into the very spectacular Barron gorge.
We returned to Karunda for a cold drink then back down the winding road to the main road and 28 degrees.
The road was quite busy and not helped by frequent road works and stop/go men.
We had a couple of stops along the way one of which is called Rex’s lookout where several hang gliders were launching. Very cool to watch this up close.
We checked into our accommodation then went for a walk along the beautiful beach and then into the town for a look see.
This is simply holidayville with apartments everywhere, chic shops and a totally chilled out feel.
It is safe to swim at this beach, a few people were and there is even a lifeguard on duty.
All in all a very nice day topped off with a delicious Vietnamese dinner not far from our motel.
